Capitol Building Lincoln Nebraska

I visited the Capitol in Lincoln for the first time in 20 years. I nearly forgot what an extraordinary structure this is. The stone block construction should stand another millennium. These few pics are from the second floor.

New Mexico Vistas

On a recent trip to New Mexico I tried out the panarama feature on the Sony camera . You can press and sweep the horizon. While I don't think I will use this function often, it did capture somewhat better the expansive open country that a simple pic couldn't.

NAMI-Walks, Austin, Texas, 10/02/2010

Beautiful early fall day with about 3000 walkers on hand to call attention to the need for awareness of mental illness and hope for recovery. Mayor Lee Leffingwell and Governor Rick Perry showed up and participated. I walked with the "Recovery Rockers" and we had over 80 Austin Travis County Integral Care employees and family take part. http://www.atcic.org/ I took over 150 pictures and grouped them into a slide video. This walk was sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness, NAMI-Austin.

Nambe Falls and Reservoir

Northeast of Santa Fe there are string of Pueblos that have governance over their lands. Here in the pictures are the Nambe falls and reservoir. I hiked around the lake and up to the falls. Notice not a cloud in the sky. In early fall it's 75 degrees and a great day to be in the outdoors.

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Life and death in the high desert. The bleached bones, no longer held together as a living backbone, lay strung out in contrast to the living plant pushing through the arid soil.

Texas Western Sky

In the lower left you can make out the winding road called Bee Caves that heads west to our home from under the Mo-Pac away from downtown. I had worked late and was within a few miles of home when this radiant burst of light broke from behind the clouds. I stuck my i-phone out the car window and caught the day-ending atmospheric drama.

Recently Deb and I saw the movie "Inception" at the Bullock IMAX theater in Austin. As we were waiting to go in on the second floor entrance I looked down on the painted floor that turned liquid in the streaming light. You can make out The Story of Texas across the top of this representative art.

Summertime Cherries

Often in the heat of summer the slow drama of ripening fruit is missed. Selecting from the wide variety of foods, in a quick trip to Whole Foods in air conditioned convenience, is the last step of acquisition. Standing under a vivid cluster of these cherries I could see in the tree above birds also vying for a shot at summer refreshment.

post rain in Austin

Surveying the yard in Austin after a nice rain offers many intimate peeks into the refreshment of the shower. Here the snowball crape myrtle drips off to the every hungry roots below.

I downloaded a new app for the i-phone called "Hipstamatic". This features a representation of an old Instamatic or snap camera. then settings allow you to choose a lens and type of film. Again these are digital settings that create an effect. In the bedroom yesterday afternoon I noticed some sunlight thought the blinds hitting books, a teapot and a glass that struck me as a good subject for such a pic. The most modern of gadgets makes a retro....

Tyler Allen Evans

BIG day in Austin.....Tyler Allen arrives. Healthy, on the nursery table here 30 minutes after he was born. Oh you caught it....Jon is proud as can be. The maternity nurse has just given TA a vitamin K shot and eye goop. I set a record for pics with Jackson and I might just break it with the new big boy.

Jackson David was over for a visit tonight as his parents attended a concert (here in the music capital). I tried to put him down for a nap several times but he would out fox me. Finally when he said he needed an apple sauce snack I decided it was a chance to capture some developmental video on m i-phone, the use of the spoon! As you can see he has some mastery over this introductory utensil......next, the fork.....

Jackson Ball Austin

On Saturday, Jackson's Dad Jon played 3 on 3 basketball in an outdoor tournament. Jackson couldn't sit still and watch. He had his ball and he threw it, kicked it, carried it and hugged it for the three hour tour. In all he had a ball and possibly a future in ball related sports.

Austin spring frond Texas

A sure sign of spring is a dramatic unfurling of a frond from the earthen floor. It seems one day it's chilly cold and the next only summers soon arrival.

Recently Deb and I walked through Zilker Gardens on a radiant afternoon. When we reached the ponds a fellow was there with his tripod and SRL camera and waiting quietly. I asked him what he was intending to shot and he pointed to koy circling the lily pond. As I was passing a small school came round and I caught this single pic....the koy are aptly named.

Bowl by i-phone

This picture is not too remarkable except it was the first one I took with my i-phone. I downloaded an app called HD for phone and snapped the first thing I saw....the patio bowl filled with rain water and leaves. I am not sure my Nikon D-80 would have done much better and I cant make a call with it.

Philosophers Stone Austin

At Zilker pool there is a popular sculpture by Gleena Goodacre called the Philosophers Stone. It stands just outside the Zilker pool and is life size. Children often climb up to sit in the discussion and have their picture taken. I enjoyed this light just before dusk.

Jackson on 'phones

Jackson loves to watch Yo Gabagaba on my computer. The headphones may be a bit much however as he was searching for the source of the sound seemingly disconnected from the viewing screen. He protested when I tried to take them as he truly enjoyed this new dimension of home entertainment....oh no, what have we created now?

Blanton Musuem

One of the most interesting aspects of visiting the Blanton is the people. Here on the UT Campus is Deb about to ascend to the second floor exhibits. She turned around for this quick pic with the iphone.
